Today Ilaria is a completely different person, finally feeling normal emotionally and physically. But just two years ago she suffered from the following symptoms: severe headaches, neuralgia, eye problems, conjunctivitis, difficulty breathing through her nose, eczematous skin problems, tachycardia, back pain, an oesophageal hernia, heartburn, knee pain, tremor, recurring herpes, nosebleeds, short-sightedness, flat feet, intestinal and circulatory problems, and feeling cold (especially in her legs). How she got out of this condition is told below, in her own first-person account.
From Hell to Heaven
I was seventeen when one night I woke up in pain — and from then on, hell began. Many painful symptoms followed that ordeal. At first I began waking at night with headaches and a stiff neck that I could not even turn. I began feeling weak and spent a lot of time in bed. Over time, extremely severe headaches, dizziness and depression followed.
I kept getting worse and worse. Something as simple as standing caused headaches twenty-four hours a day. Neuralgia, conjunctivitis and tooth pain began tormenting me; something happened to my nose — I could not breathe through it — and eczema broke out on my skin. Tachycardia, tremor and circulatory problems also began. I could not open my mouth: my jaw had locked. I could barely swallow. I had to make an enormous effort just to get up. I was forced to leave my job. Suddenly my legs became a problem: I felt pain, they turned red, and my feet burned constantly.
I lost the ability to earn a living like other normal people. I did not even have the strength to open a bottle. I also developed gynaecological and hormonal problems: I began suffering from amenorrhoea. I feared it was some autoimmune disease, so I had several tests and visited several doctors. A rheumatologist prescribed Xanax and Fans. But the former affected me strangely and solved nothing. I tried muscle relaxants, which did me no good. Later I went to a cardiologist, who diagnosed hypotension and ‘minus tachycardia’. I had X-rays and MRI scans of my neck and pelvis, but they found nothing significant: cervical lordosis and a few millimetres of pelvic asymmetry. I was told there was nothing to worry about — everyone is asymmetrical. So I was sent to a psychologist and told all my problems were the result of somatising my anxiety.
In the end, my visits to the psychologist were useless — money literally thrown away. The same happened with the services of an orthopaedist, physiotherapist, neurologist and osteopath. Then one fine day a physician told me that all my problems might come from an incorrect bite. From then on, I scoured all of Italy looking for dentists, including famous gnathologists and maxillofacial surgeons. I even considered orthognathic surgery. Then I started spending thousands of euros on orthodontic work and very expensive bite correction. In the end, by the time I was twenty-six, after all that money had been spent, all my new bite had solved was my headache problem. Not a very good result!
I was desperate and began browsing information online. There I found an appealing way of balancing the body: Starecta. At first I thought it was another useless therapy aimed at stealing money from desperate people. But since I had already tried everything, I had nothing left to lose. Without enthusiasm, I put the splint in my mouth, and suddenly real improvements began, along with sensations I had never experienced in my life. I adjusted the splint every two weeks.
After just a few months I could say that the method worked well. But I still had back pain. I became obsessed with changing the splint. I added more and more height and concentrated on raising the back of the jaw. My friends and family thought I was crazy. For hours I tried to understand how the splint worked and, above all, listened to my body. I became obsessed with symmetry and examined every part of my face and body: a higher eye, the lip line, a shorter leg…
I experimented a lot and realised that I needed to increase the height of the rearmost large teeth. In fact, my jaw was asymmetrical. Eventually, only by raising the splint did I begin to feel well. My shortened side was the right, so I began adding more height in that area, moving my jaw towards the opposite side (Ilaria was one of the method’s pioneers, but a clear methodology and registration of a new bite have now been developed — translator’s note). This was difficult because of the characteristics of my teeth, which were low, so I had to create additional height. To my surprise, I discovered that the unhealthy tilt of my head and pelvis had decreased considerably.
After more time had passed, the morning pain throughout my body went away and I could begin the day easily. How wonderful that was! Another surprise was that my hormones began working again, and my skin became beautiful and bright. Since then I have not had a single nosebleed, and all the eczema on the lower part of my jaw has disappeared. Today I am a completely different person and feel well emotionally and physically.
